Hello
My name is Zehra Rizvi
I'm the owner and lead artist at Mango Mehndi. With over 12 years of bridal mehndi experience and 15+ years creating henna art I love creating one of a kind pieces with unique elements just for you.

When I'm not doing henna, I can be found cooking, teaching, reading a good book, or learning about the grammar of obscure languages.

Our Background
How We Got Here
In 2004, Zehra Rizvi started Mango Mehndi with just a table and chairs at a small fair in the Northwest suburbs of Minneapolis. The name has changed over the years, but the henna has only gotten better. Since then, she has decorated people at everything from craft fairs and college events to private parties, as well as creating bespoke pieces for brides before their big day.

Where does the name Mango Mehndi come from? The name originates with two words from Urdu, a language of Pakistan. Mango comes from the Urdu word for paisleys, a traditional motif in Pakistani and Indian bridal designs. In Urdu, paisleys and mangos are given the same name because paisleys look like a stylized drawing of the type of mangos indigenous to Pakistan. The word "mehndi" is the Urdu word for henna.

For those of you new to henna:
Henna is traditional body art worn as part of celebrations across North Africa and South Asia (think areas around India: Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka). The henna we use at Mango Mehndi is hand mixed based on traditional recipes using only natural ingredients from reputable sources.
